Straightening the Curls
Hey gang, I know I been missing and very inconsistent but I promise I’m trying to get better. I’ve been really focused on a new project and branding. You would think that would be easy but for some reason it wasn’t for me. Enough with all that though, let’s get into today’s talk.
So, I really want to touch base on straightening curly hair. I know some of y’all sittin there rollin ya eyes talkin bout “your suppose be promoting being natural.” But I love the beauty & diversity of natural hair. As long as your curls bounce back, hunny, I’m down.
The straight look is so iconic even with all the baggage. So I’m gonna give some tips on how to do it with ruining the curls.
TIP 1) Always start on clean hair!!!
The straightening process has to start from scratch. Well cleaned & conditioned hair will make the detangling process easier. Usually I finger detangle so I don’t get all the knots all the time but for this you want your have COMPLETELY knot free!!! Conditioning will also moisturize the hair. Heat will drain the hair if moisture so DON’T SKIP THIS STEP!!
TIP 2) Work in smaller sections than usual
The smaller the section the less heat to be used. Less heat is what you want for minimum damage. Working in smaller sections allows the heat to touch every stand and straighten the first time around. It is also a lot easier for the flat iron to tap all the roots. Try sections no larger than a half- one inch.
TIP 3) ALWAYS use a heat protectant
If your goal is to have your curls revert back then there is no skippin this step. Heat protectant adds an extra shield to the hair.
TIP 4) Chase Method
I don’t know if y’all do this but i do and i think it makes a huge difference. The chase method (I don’t know if that’s the name I just made it up, so if you go goggling it and can’t find it I warned you) is when you use a fine tooth comb in front of the flat iron while you go through the hair. The fine tooth comb with kind of separate the hair so the flat iron touches every strand. Using this method will save you from keepin goin through with the flat iron multiple times. (Less heat)
There is definitely a lot more tops and tricks to use. Definitely do more research on which heat protectants are the best. Thanks for reading, I’m out!!💙🧡
